Remote horns??

I installed the 540 shockers on my buddies tahoe and i was wondering does there have to be any special wiring to have the horns blow with the remote entry?? i hooked it up where it will blow when the switch is on and pushing on the steering wheel… i tried to see if it worked and it did but the stock horn blew aswell so he didn’t want that so i took the stock horn fuse out where the train horns will blow but it wont blow with the remote anymore… even when i turned the trucks info to where it wont light up the lights but just the horn…anyone got an idea???

Use a toggle switch.

Run it off the vehicle horn’s power to the switch, then from the switch to the valve for your 540’s. Turn it on and both horns will sound, turn it off and only the vehicle horn sounds.

This way it will sound with the alarm/remote entry, but only if you’ve got air.

^ That is how mine is setup. Just use the stock horn relay. My switch is hiding under the dash. I can switch between stock horn and WTF was that!

Well i have it wired from the stock horn to a switch where i can go back and forth to the stock horn and the train horn, i tried to test it out when i had the switch on and i locked it and the train horn went off just the only thing that the stock horn sounded before the train horn, and the tank was very low on air… when i filled the tank up and i tried so where the stock horn woundnt blow it wouldn’t work, i looked at the fuse and even tried putting the remote lock to just the horn and it still wouldn’t work… i donno if there is enough power going to the vavle to open it or what…

^ Your doing the wiring wrong. use a 3-way switch. 1- stock horn, 2- both off, 3- train horn only. These valves only pull MAX of 4-5 amps, so there is no problem there.

This is how i made my system. (simplified).
I just used a 2 way switch to select which horn to use because basically i think that the “no horn” position is useless.

^ That is the problem. Your not switching between stock horn and train horn, your just switching between stock horn and stock horn with a train horn. Now your doubling the amperage need from that horn relay.

avfrog is right, the solenoid needs a lot of power when tank is full.
I had the same problem, that’s why i had to add another relay (the green one).
Buy a 30A relay (5 bucks) and you’ll be happy, i guarrantee!

A friend that use to own a high end shop hooked mine up with two switches switch 1 is a three way… up is stock horn, middle no horn and down is shockers. Switch 2 is the compressor switch that way i can turn compressor off if i get pulled over by the cops or if i get a major leak from my tank or fittings; i would not want that humming from the comp. Haven’t yet but the plan is to switch off compressor and turn other switch to stock horn. Also switches are small black plastic that look very stock. Horns are well hidden under my truck bed. Very stealthy install! My Viper alarm is also connected to shockers, that way any thief will not hang around and if the tank is drained the viper still will still sound. Panic button is remote for shockers. I also added Viper smart start that way i can set my horns off from anywhere that i have cell phone service, distance is not a factor just signal!. It’s an install that will reval any professional install.
