Remote trigger using smart phone or radio?

So today I was thinking about wiring my horns up to the car alarm, or basically so I could blow it using my key remote. But as I thought more and more I took into consideration on how limited the range is. Personally I thought it would be awesome to have a HUGE range for the remote. Then I thought how could it be done. The only thing that came to mind was utilizing radio waves, like walkie talkie ect. Then I thought, how awesome would it be if there was an app or feature on my iphone that would send a signal to a receiver on the car and blow the horns!!

Im courious to whether or not someone has done something like this or may have some information to how.

i bought this for my truck.

its a 4 switch radio controller.

pretty simple to use. you can have up to 4 devices being controled.

it can be momentary or on / off, but if you set it to momentary and you hold the button on the controller, it keeps it on.

i have mine set so it flashes my 4 fogs lights, on / off of lights (so i can turn em on when im working outside), turn on / off compressor and then my last button is my horn which is set to momentary.

Its super simple to wire up too. there are two cables which which gives power and grounds the reciever.

the 4 channels as it says in the instruction booklet states that each color or channel has two wires, take one of each color and connect it to a power source, perferably to the battery. then the other pair of the cable goes to where you want to power, aka like the selenoid. so it goes from the battery to the device you want.

as you can see from this video,

i got 350 ft away and it was functionable, and i could of gone farther too. But, it works best in an open area like parking lot.

Where it doesnt work as good is like when you have a multi story parking lot and you park on the 3 or 4th floor and try to honk it.

like any radio device, the controller has a antenna it extends about 3" (ha)

But either way, totaly worth the money.

I saw an ad the other day in a truckn magazine that had something that you can control your compressors/bags/horns through your phone if you have an android or an iphone. The kit was around $400 and i thought that was a little pricey. If you are still interested I can look back and give you more info on it.

Baxd-- I just ordered from the link on amazon you posted below. have you had any problems with you reciever at all??

no i have not had any issues with it.

the only thing is concrete buildings, it cuts the range like i said. but other than that it works like a charm. i have it snuggled between the battery and the battery bay area.

it comes with a piece of velcro that you can stick on to it and have it where ever you need.

post pics when you get done!

I wired mine threw my stock horn relay so I can hit the panic button and set my horns off. I can chirp it by hitting the lock button twice too.

I ordered the PL-SW29 SX4 from the link you posted above and installed it yesterday. I am having problems with it because when I hit the button the horns stick and will not turn off until the tank is empty. Did you have this problem/ how do you turn yours off?

did you open the black box and switch the channels so it goes from on/off to momentary? there are some pins you can pull.

here is an image of the pins. each pin is for one of the channels. if you remove the pin connector it will make it so that channel is momentary so it only works when you click / hold down the button and as soon as you let go it turns off the connection.

NICE! glad it worked for you!

There is a kit I once used, basically its a remote start/pager car alarm. it also has a trunk release button. The beauty of this system is it works upto 1km away! it only cost me about 60 quid (approx $90).

This one is suitable for diesels as it has a time delay which allows for the glow plugs if required.
