I have installed my new Train Horn Kit.
Shocker horns, 480C compressor and a 5 gallon tank.
But when the compressor turns on, you can hear a loud ringing sound, that seems to come out of the tank.
All ports on tank are firm.
My first idea was, it will be the compressor, but when it is unhooked to the tank, the compressor runs very quiet.
When you shake the tank, you can’t hear anything.
I don’t know, what I have to do.
:mad::mad::mad:
Please, send me your ideas to eliminate that honking sound!
My shocker kit does the same thing lol. Its in my trunk though so its not that bad. Yesterday I picked the tank up as it was filling to make sure it wasn’t rattling, and it wasn’t. I can’t figure it out either! It’s not too loud though. It doesn’t bother me as my music is usually cranked.
probably the check valve after the compressor. when the compressor runs the outgoing air comes in pulses so the check valve opens and closes which makes the tank vibrate and make a ringing sound. I think that’s what it is.
ya i have 4 480s nd mine does the same thing… sounds like the compressor is gonna blow its piston… but when u unhook it from the tank its fine… i got this nice rubber matting and put a peice under my comps to slow down the vibe… everything else is good…
I had to empty my 5 gal tank tonight to reinstall a line and when it was beginning to fill i also heard this ringing sound… almost sounds like a piece of metal vibrating on another piece of metal…
Ever notice that it only does this at lower tank pressure?
Air is rushing into the tank and bounces all over the inside, similar to the sound that helium makes when you’re filling a balloon from a helium tank - except the tank is metal so it will make a ringing sound. Once the tank reaches higher pressure, the density of air in the tank tends to muffle the sound of the air rushing in somewhat (plus the air is coming in more slowly at higher pressures).
If you’re running a VIAIR compressor, and its rated to a specific pressure - then run it up to that pressure with confidence. Some compressors may have an “intermittent pressure” associated with their top pressure, but ALL VIAIR compressors are rated at “working pressure” - the pressure at which they are designed and intended to be operated at and up - to.
Oasis compressors are the same way. They are cabable of more to insure proper operation at their rating but don’t go beyond the rating because it voids the warranty.
