I want to have an independent switch to turn my compressor on and off instead of having it connected to the ignition switch. Would this switch be ok to use on the Viair 400C?
Place the toggle switch in between the 18 gauge wire, and the ignition fuse.
That’s it!
Good luck!
Sorry Garrett, I don’t know what or where any of that is. I’ve never done any kind of installation before. I was just wondering if the switch I have would be suitable for running the compressor. The switch is rated for 16A.
Did you simply purchase a compressor from us? Or a complete train horn kit?
complete kit
There is wiring schematics on it if you have the instruction manual.
For the toggle you run it in between the pressure switch label that says ‘horn trigger’ and the ignition fuse.
What kit did you purchase?
I purchased the shocker 240 and it is arriving tomorrow; I’m just planning ahead. I just wanted to turn the compressor on and off with a switch instead of it coming on when the key is turned on. I already have the switch - it is identical the one on this link:

My only question is - would this particular switch be sufficient for handling the amperage of the compressor.
Thanks
whats the reason for putting the switch on the compressor ? The relay will keep it from coming on if the vehicle is not on (a long as you wire it that way) and the pressure switch will turn the comp on and off to the correct psi’s…
if your trying to put a switch on it to keep it from coming on at other times, just put a standard rocker switch on the remote turn on lead going to the pressure switch / relay…
that way if the rocker / toggle is off , the comp wont kick on even if the vehicle is because the pressure switch is not sensing it.
To answer your question (If I am reading it correctly), yes, you can put that switch in on a constant hot wire, however, if you don’t turn it off, it WILL KILL YOUR BATTERY. I would recommend putting it on a wire that only comes on when the key is turned on. This is how I have mine setup…
See the switches above the bottle of water? the 2 switches that are lit up are for controlling the compressors (Switch 4) and the horn button itself (Switch 3) they only come on when the key is on, and if I turn switch 4 off, the compressors will not turn on. If I turn switch 3 off, I can’t use the horn button.
the way i wired mine was just going and buying a 12v switch from autzone…the guy said it would be fine to run a wire from the battery straight to the switch and then to the compressor works great
put the toggle on in between the battery and the pressure switch… thats how i have mine hooked up… the switch is off the commpressors wont turn on b/c there is no power to the pressure switch… its simple…
yeah same principle works fine…especially if you dont feel like goin in and cutting wires
You don’t have to cut wires… tap a fuse, splice into it (Scotch Loks work GREAT)
shh your making sense
I’d agree with using a ‘keyed-on’ wire instead of directly to the battery. Run this to your switch and then to the pressure switch / relay.
Also to throw out a nice alternative:
The 100 Watt HornBlasters Public Address

You can use either of the two rocker switches on the front to control your air system. With the suggested wiring above it would be basically a kill switch: Auto (fills up when necessary and key is on), or Off.
The other one would be good to use as a horn kill-switch/toggle or for a variety of other accessories.
Hahahahahaha “And why not whilst eating you toast in the morning. purchase the Hornblasters 100 PA system”… lol lol The most Blatant award for salesmanship goes to…Tiernan;)
stinky are u getting this siren???
I think he should…
yep k3 + pa + siren = lots lots looooooooooottttttttttttsssssss of fun lol
