Alright, so i’ve been having this issue where even if i tap my horn button for a split second, the solenoid sticks (i think) and the horns sometimes will stay on for 3-4 seconds. no good. sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. but it happens 75% of the time.
so today, i took my solenoid off, opened it up, cleaned it out, made sure i had a good ground, and tested it off the truck with no pressure. it opened and closed perfectly every time, but the second i put it back on the truck with pressure, it does the same old thing. just sticks. what’s going on? is my solenoid bad? should i just get a new one?
thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it! I know there was another thread on this a few below, but this is strange because it only happens when there is pressure to the solenoid it seems
:)How much pressure do u have? What kind(name ie:smc or what) of solenoid is it ?
Do u have a relay on it ?
haha it’s running 150 psi… i am not sure what the name brand is, i think something M&M or like that? i do not have a relay on it yet, but i’m planning on getting one!
I’m just going to order a new solenoid from garret tomorrow. my dad and i figured out the solenoid probably wasnt rated for this kind of pressure and over time the spring wore, and now it just can’t hold it. no problem =]
Are you sure it isn’t your momentary switch? I wouldn’t think that the solenoid would stick like that… assuming you have it on a second switch and not your steering wheel horn…
well it’s tied into my steering wheel horn, but on a 3 way switch connected to my shockers and my stock horn, and off. the reason i know it’s not my momentary switch (steering wheel) is because i’ve tested the stock horn a million times and it never has that issue of sticking. it would make sense though, if you think about it, because this didn’t happen when i first got my solenoid, so the spring was new and strong, but over time it just has broken in and become more weak, holding less pressure
