shocker 240 XL vs shocker 540 XL

I know this is probably a redundant question, but I need some advice about installation options. I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and I am interested in getting the Shocker 540XL. My problem is that I do not want the compressor inside the vehicle and the 5 gallon compressor seems too large to fit anywhere underneath. Therefore, it seems that I will be forced into getting the Shocker 240 XL. Is there truly a noticable difference in the sound when comparing a 2 gallon vs a 5 gallon compressor? Is there anyone here who actually has had success installing a 5 gallon compressor on the undercarriage? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

well this is all going to depend on what kind of vehicle you have

if I know correctly, the only difference between the 540XL and 240XL are the size of the tanks.

if that’s the case, the sound should be the same. bigger tank = longer honk time.

The difference is the tank and fittings. The 5 gallon tank has larger ports and a lot more of them: eight 1/2in ports compared to two 3/8in ports and four 1/4in ports.

This means the 5 gallon kit provides slightly better air flow to the horns. It’s not too extreme of a difference though.

If you want additional volume without the bulky tank, you might consider ‘piggy-backing’ two smaller tanks. For example, you could connect two 2 gallon tanks for a total of 4 gallons air but with a much narrower footprint. When you connect tanks with air line they don’t necessary have to be near each other too. e.g. one tank on the left side, and one on the right side of the truck or wherever room allows.
