Shocker Classic 228VX on my 2008 Rav4

Here’s the install on the Installs section

I had my good friend do most of the work for me as he’s more handy than me. You can see him in most of the pictures.

They were installed on July 31st and I’ve been having a blast with them, but there will be lots of snow soon and I’m concerned about my clearance on my front driver side bumper. I have the longest horn started at the driver’s end and my front bumper cover has an enormous bulge. I think I need to find a different location for the 2 horns on the driver side.

looks good… i like the headlights, the bike but dont like the choice of drink lol

nice, another rav4 with trainhorns. I don’t see rav4’s with train horns often.

mine’s the smaller 2nd Gen. had a hard time looking for a place to put in shockers.

Does anyone know for a fact how significant of a change in sound if I just cut or trim the largest bell? Because I went to a local customs shop today and they couldn’t find anywhere else to relocate the horns. My best bet is to cut the bell, because the mechanic said the sound is really coming from the diaphragm, but I’m thinking then what is the point of the flare and bell?!

i say take it to another shop first. has to be another spot to mount.
i dont recommend cutting the horn…might void the warranty …

What if I swapped out the longest horn which is B1 19.5 in for the 2nd longest B2 16.25 in?

you can do that… will make a different sound but still be loud and good.

I just removed my horns from my front bumper today. Took nearly 2 hours and $50. I moved everything to the trunk and I plan on having the horns frontal facing inside the trunk. I’m going to have to drill 4 holes and figure out someway to close it after I stick the horns through. Everyone is concerned about how loud it would be inside, but I keep saying the flares will be pointed outside. There’s going to be holes! One shop I went to consult with was worried about the horns pointing directly at my gas tank. and I’m like, what is that going to do? It’s just noise and he said, it’s more than just noise! It’s shockwaves! To which I replied that I don’t think shockwaves is going to cause my gas tank to explode.

lmao… that shop is dumb… but it made me laugh

Okay, took me about 3 hours in the freezing 20 degree cold, but I finally figured it out!

At first I was going to mount them like this, by making X shape cuts to shove the horns through, but I soon realized that was too much work. I had my drill and saw ready to go too.

Then while I was looking under the trunk, I realized I can fit them right under and still be flush with my exhaust! This became hell of a lot easier, no need to make any sheet metal, just drill a few small holes on my plastic trunk and bolt them on!

Now don’t have to sacrifice any trunk space… Besides the tank and compressor. Thank god for exterior mounted space tires, lol.

That’s some dedication right there! Good job.

I’m not screwing with mine until it 50 outside.

Today some idiot was making a U turn and there’s already enough traffic as it is from the snow so of course I gave a couple blasts and for some reason the horns wouldn’t stop. As if the solenoid was stuck in the open position or something. I grabbed the power signal wire that goes to the solenoid trying to break the cirsuit but I couldn’t and after a second or so, it stopped. I know it wasn’t the signal wire because I have it set to where my oem horns go off with the train horns and my stock horns weren’t going off. I hit my horn again to check and it went off as normal. I’m guessing the solenoid somehow got stuck with short repeated taps? I don’t know, this has never happened to me before.

lmao!!! that has happened to me before with my old shocker kit… the valve gets stuck open some times from dirt or very cold weather…

Oh man, now that I have the horns mounted low and forward facing, they sound horrible whenever I have to drive through snow. The horns sound like they’re filled with salt water, slush and snow. Takes a couple full tanks of blasting to clear them out! Ugh… Another fail!

hmm get some protector screens… or make some

I really miss having them floor facing. They sounded and felt alot louder too when facing the ground.

It doesn’t matter which way the solenoid is positioned right? Because it happened again when I tapped my horn rapidly.

its better to keep it free from the weather elements

The only thing exposed is my horns. Everything else is in my trunk. I don’t even have a square inch of tubing exposed.

is that the blue solenoid that came with the kit?
when i had my shockers i had that problem until i replaced it with smc valve
