Single or Dual Compressor

Alright

My K3’s came in and I tested them this weekend on my 5 gal tank and they swallow air like its no ones business. first blow and my compressor kicked in. I was thinking of upgrading to a 8.5 gal tank with two Viair 480c’s.

My first question is would one Zenith OB2 200 psi compressor do the same thing as 2 viair 480c?

Secondly, would that one compressor be sufficient to fill that tank on its own at an acceptable time or should it be given some more help?

Any input is appreciated.

ill say go with dual 480c i had a 8.5 gallon air tank with dual 480c and i love it

How long did they take to fill your tank?

Simply put, without putting down any company’s product:

One AZ compressor does not equal the output of two 480C compressors.

AZ Claims = Not stated on website.
$389.99 (single compressor)

Two 480C = 3.53 CFM @ 0 PSI
$399.95 (two compressors with relay and pressure switch)

from 165-200psi about 2 mins

It will and won’t for a few reasons.

Firstly they’re rated to only handle 5 gallons of air. You were intending on using a 8.5 gallon tank, so this won’t work without voiding your warranty (an excellent two-year one at that) and potentially destroying your pump.

Secondly, its never good to put all yours eggs in one basket. Having a dual compressor setup is more reliable. It provides a fail safe in case something ever goes wrong, two separate points of heat dispersion, distributed load, etc.

According to independent tests, the OB2 puts out 2.19 CFM which is higher than the 2.08 Viair claims. At 200 PSI, our independent review shows 1.29 CFM compared to 1.17 with the dual 480s.

So in this sense it will give you the same performance.

For an 8 gallon tank though, you’d need two OB2s. At that point you could also consider four Viair 480Cs, or an Oasis XD3000 as alternatives.
