well recently ive been having problems with a very irritating slow leak ive soaped all da fittings and nothing is bubbling so just in case i went out and purchased all new push fittings and still have da leak ive done some internet research and some say it could be my check valve from my viair 480 maybe u guys can give me yalls input and lead me 2 da right direction thank u guys hopefully yall can help
I had nothing but air leaks with the push fittings. I changed over to crime style and no more leaks.
thats weird ur the first 2 say that well atleast down here all da custom shops here who do air ride set ups say those r the best ones 2 use cuz i had bought some fittings from lowes in da past and had nothing but problems with those so im confused now lol
The key to the push fittings is having clean, square cuts on the air lines. We run all push-lock fittings on our drag bike air shifters also and that is the biggest cause of leaks. If it looks like a group of angry beavers gnawed on the end of your air line then it will leak every time. Use a new razor blade and make a clean, straight cut and you should be fine.
the new check valves on 480s are junk. i had 7 of them go bad. they crack inside its hand tight and 1 full turn. no more. this is directly from viair. it was getting annoying so i finally just bought a check valve.
that or the valve will leak. common problem as well
hopefully i dont have 2 go through 7 of them but im ordering 1 like da 1 i have on their it was used when i bought the set up but its a 1/2 smc heavy duty check valve from wut ive read and their not 2 expensive only like 20 bucks but we’ll wait and c and i also trimed da ends of both lines with one of those hose cutters from lowes so im hoping their straight well atleast from wut i can c ill check it again and go from their
double check your fittings, you may need to look very close
are you using loctite 545 or teflon tape on your fittings.
i bought some teflon tape from lowes its a pink 1 they said it was heavy duty and da best so i went wit it but man i promise ive checked every fitting like 10 times i swear and even taken them off cleaned or replaced just cuz i thought it looked bad da only thing i havent changed is da fitting dat connects da leader 2 da check valve 2 da tank and ive soaked litterally everything that has air goin through wit a huge bottle of dish soap and water and nothing also havent messed with da hose but ive tracked da whole thing with soap and water and nothing im lost???
did you check your valve?..i have an electric one and when i first put it in it leaked because the 4 hex bolts were loose.
Wish I could be more help, but sorry I cant stand reading through this paragraph. (DA, DAT, CUZ, …)
no not yet i havent i think thats gonna be my next thing i ordered da check valve and later on today ill go and check da valve didnt really think that could be bad since it was new but ill check when i get off from wk
+1 on keeping the cuts square and neat on the push-in fittings. I did not have good luck using teflon tape on the threaded fittings, teflon helped but still leaked. Use this stuff http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/thread_compounds/a_thread_sealants/auto_Permatex_Thread_Sealant_with_PTFE.htm
Don’t get it confused with their more common thread locker.
Or the Permatex equivalent to Loctite 545:
i wanna send a big thanks 2 every1 that gave me some pointers it was da check valve and is finally holding all 200 psi thank u guys so much
Glad u got it
Man!!! The leak is back and its da check valve AGAIN if I bang on it while its leaking it will stop and just 2 triple check I removed the filter from d compressor stuck my finger over it and sprayed some soapy water and sure enough there go the bubbles the shop I bought it from said the couldn’t Exchange it so I didn’t mind but there all out of any more any of u guys have a suggestion on wut kind 2 buy or a specific brand please let me know thanks guys
Apparently they are sensitive to over tightening. Did you crank 'er down?
I bought some through mcmaster carr, but haven’t tried them yet.
Somebody else on the forum bought an industrial check valve and loves it…
Check valves from viair smc Parker all state that they should be hand tight then 1 full turn
Well I would definitely say thats the problem then cuz I’m not gonna lie I cranked it pretty bad so this sucks looks like I gotta order another 1 and @ kms ill keep that in mind thanks guys ill keep yall posted
I would have 2 say yes I did man I didn’t know that would be an issue due 2 if its 2 loose it would leak or something along those lines well now I have 2 buy another 1
