Small problem

As most of you know, I got the Shocker 228vx kit. Today, after draining what little water there was in my tank and putting everything back together, I noticed that when the compressor was on and filling the tank up with air, that it was leaking on the chrome, braided hose going from the compressor to the tank. It was leaking on the end of the hose, just before the check valve on the tank, between the nut and the crimped area.

I took this hose off and saw there were several hair-line cracks inside the end of the hose, where it was flanged outward for the compression fitting. So it looks like I’ll need a replacement.

Now, this hose looks somewhat like the shorter braided water/air hose I can buy from any hardware store. Is this true, or will I need to order another hose from Hornblasters?

Thanks for your help.

Kinda curious if it would work, but I wouldn’t mess with a water hose.
They kind of look like cheap simulated braided stainless.

In the case that I need to order one from Hornblasters, where do I just order the braided hose? I cannot find an order page with just that part. Can it be replaced via warranty?

You’ll probably have to call them. Whether it’s still under warranty or not, they should be able to get it for you. The Viair site lists a bunch of them.

I tried calling them earlier today, but I guess they’re off for the holiday. I left my name, what I needed, and numbers to call me back at.

It’s funny if you call on their lunch break. On the voicemail they appologize for having to actually eat food.

Errrrrr am I reading right in thinking, you cant use a braided water hose, coz there is a one way valve in the compressor hose to stop the air going back into the compressor??

^^ Good point.
Viair sells leader hoses with & without check valves…and I couldn’t see one on the 20005 air kit. It makes sense that it should have one.

I sent in the hose on Friday, and the post office said it would arrive on Monday (today). The check valve is fine, so I didn’t send that in.

Got a call yesterday, and they said my new hose would be in today.
