solenoid valve bad?

thinking my solenoid valve might be bad…this is what the events are.
turn on switch that powers up compressor and comp. starts up; about 3 seconds after horn starts blowing. they blow as long as comp runs. turn comp. off horns quit.
i have checked wiring and voltage is good. next i disconnected all wiring from solenoid valve and started comp. horns start blowing after about 3 secs. is there a pos. and neg. for solenoid… i thought either way was ok since it would take power or circuit for solenoid to open.
your thoughts please…

thanks

took the valve apart to look and diaphram has small pinhole in it… is this normal? could be the source of leaking air? who knows about this.

Is this a new installation or did it recently start acting up?
If it’s all new, is valve installed the correct direction? Arrow in direction of airflow.

Wiring doesn’t matter.
I’ve only had my valve apart long enough to remove the bracket, so I don’t know about the guts.

as far as i know this is the first time air has been on the system…i bought it from someone second-hand who said they never found time to install it. there was everything in the kit that is listed and pictured from hornblasters so i believe em. (it all looked brand new also)…i just got around to wiring everything today and first time i turned the comp on it started blowing the horns or horn rather with the small pressure that was there. i double checked flow arrow stamped on the solenoid valve and it was correct. even disconnected the valve from any electrical power; all with same results…thought someone might have had this happen previously…

got it to working…disassembled the whole thing and blew some shavings out (don’t know if they were milling shavings or what)…put it togather again carefully and looked at the mounting bracket…i think one of the self taping screws i was using to mount it to the frame was making contact with the valve body and maybe keeping the piston from traveling freely… not sure about this as i would have to do it again to duplicate it and as long as they are working…its not gonna happen…
thanks to you ear2ear for the quick response…i think the small hole in the solenoid diaphram is stamped there for water bleed and air bleed…i got magnifying glass and looked at it and its too perfect to not be stamped.
thanks again…
