The BigYella intro

Hello all!

I’ve been a voyeur here for a few months now, taking notes, looking thru install pics, etc and I’m finally closing in on the last few purchases I have to make so I can get the set of K5LAs I recently purchased installed and get busy clearin out that left lane on the interstate and scarin the hell out of those unsuspecting onlookers!

It looks like y’all have a pretty friendly and helpful environment here! A few prods and jabs along the way too which keeps it fun! I hope that I can continue to pick up some helpful info here and there and hope I can pay it forward for a newcomer down the road a bit.

At any rate, just wanted to intro myself and also thank all of you fellow horn blowers for the info I’ve already received and for any help I may need in the near future!

Carry on now…hope to chat soon!
BigYella

Welcome to the forum! Looking forward to seeing your install.
Spare tire area or somewhere different?

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah the horn will go in the spare tire spot until I get around to getting a light bar for the roof then I may throw a custom paint job on them and show them off up top. I’m guessing my air system will have to go in the bed of the truck for now because I have electric steps taking up room and I can’t figure where I’ll fit it since I’m looking into a 12 gallon tank.

I’ll be sure to take pics and post them as the install progresses. Hope to call HB today and see what we can figure out about having them supply the tank, compressors, and maybe even a manual valve and digital gauge.

I’ve been excited about this install for a couple years now and I’m finally able to do it. I can’t wait!!

Welcome

Thanks!

Welcome to the THF’s.

welcome to the
forums man thats
a wild looking truck
you got.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks guys!

Just got off the phone with Tiernan @ HB. Nice guy and real helpful! I just need to look over the quote he sent me and finalize my tank size decision, etc and I should be pulling the trigger soon I hope. Then comes the fun part…INSTALLATION!

Welcome, all of the guys at HB are great and extremely helpful.

Nice ride! Do you take it off road? It looks too pristine in your avatar…hahaha

Thanks Dan. Hell no I don’t take it off road, it’s all show! Lol. I don’t wanna tear it up and have to fix it ! Jumpin curbs and pullin people outta ditches is about as off road as I’ve gotten.

Nice rig Big Yella.
After your install is complete, might need to change your name to Big Yeller. I run a K5lar myself. Just completed my 1/2" upgrade from a 3/8" line. You will not be disapointed. Be sure to try and keep the air regulated to around 120psi. That’s the normal operating pressure. I as others have found anything over that and the harmonics get distorted. Louder yes, but harmonic no.
Looking forward to seeing some videos so we can see and hear.
Good luck.

Thanks Diesel Sniper. Btw I watched your vids the other day…good stuff! Hope one day I can be in a parade and blow everybody back off the curb!

Well I finally placed my order with Garrett yesterday afternoon and everything should be shipped out today. Thank you Garrett and Tiernan for all of your help!

Dual 444Cs
12 gallon tank
Manual train horn valve
Electronic drain valve kit for dumping moisture out of the tank
Black AZ digital air pressure gauge
1/2" tubing
All of the necessary wiring and valves for installation

And to be dressed for the occasion:
Horn if You’re Honky! t-shirts (one for me, one for the gf)
F— Off t-shirt
Shocker t-shirt
White HornBlasters stickers

And a special present to sneak into my buddy’s man-cave beer-shed:
A bottle of Liquid oven!!

I’ll be refurbishing my K5LAs this weekend. Probably go with a flat black Dupli-Color coat on the exterior and School Bus yellow inside the trumpets. Depending on delivery I’m hoping to have everything up and BLASTING by next weekend.

I originally was going to go with a 150psi regulator, but after I talked with Garrett I decided on going with 200psi. He tells me that he’s had customers who have gone from 200psi down to 150psi and they’ve regretted it. I want the loudest honk for my buck.

I intend to take pics along the way and look forward to sharing the install and final setup with you all soon!

Jeff

Nice, cant wait for some pics!

Those colors should look good under your truck.
Sounds like you have a bunch of equipment on the way.
Good luck with the paint job - I’m doing mine right now too.

Yep we’ll be looking for some pics. Maybe you’ll have an install thread.

Can’t wait to see pics Yella

Install thread has been posted

Nice job! I especially like the color matching on the horns.

Thanks Dan! I’m hoping to one day put that horn on a light bar over the cab to show it off. Until then I hope it doesn’t get chipped up too bad!
