think im finally getting a kit for my armada...some ?'s

long time lurker but as time goes on, you see the stupidity on the road and i want…no…i NEED a horn kit. i dont want to be sorry and get a cheaper kit nor do i want to spend big $$$…

i was planning on starting with the conductors special 540 shocker kit. my main questions are, which im sure have been discussed, are…

  1. is there anything in the kit that you would recommend to replace or swap out prior to installing? (air lines, relays hardware etc)

  2. is there a thread or a discussion on install tips or tricks? (how to make seals/fittings air tight, mounting techniques etc)

  3. anything else that youd suggest to a new-b.

kevin.

That’s a good complete kit.
Just make sure your grounds are attached tightly to bare metal. Keep the airlines to the individual horns the same length. Ummmm use a gromet if a wire passes through sheetmetal. For mounting, you just have to hold them up there and see where they’ll fit.

Also, use an iginition source for the trigger wire so you don’t drain your battery. This would be the wire to splice in a toggle switch as a master shut-off.

cool yea all that makes sense. what i was commenting on the airlines for is that ive seen folks upgrade to a 5/8" OD line instead of the 1/2" OD lines they come with. i wanted to know the consensus on doing that, if its a big deal better, and what would be involved (with prices) of doing so.

I started with the 540 kit, great kit to start with. THen i moved on to dual compressors, a 12 gallon tank, and a nathan airchime k5la.

As for prices of the 5/8 the only thing different would be a few PTC fittings and the air line. Shouldnt be much different in pricing i would imagine. Im still running 1/2 and my poop is loud enough for now lol

Never heard of anyone using 5/8" for Shockers. The fittings & airline are about double the price through.

lol double really? never knew that D:

maybe i misread something. so long as theres no need or benefit of a larger hose for the shockers, thats all that counts.

Using air line bigger than the ports on the horns would be a waste.

Yup, $11-12 per 1/2"NPT x 5/8" PTC fitting plus 53 bux for 25 feet.

been a long a few months with modifications for my armada but these horns are still on my list…for my next one or two mods.

is there a big/noticeable sound difference for honking someone in front of you with the horns mounting behind the bumper vs in the spare tire area?

also, is there a pitch difference with having horns pointed different ways or on differe sides of the truck? for a full size SUV there sure are limited locations for mounting everything.
