hey everyone,
I’ve had an air horn for a while, and I finally have some extra money to buy an air kit.
I was thinking about buying this kit
http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=hornair-248-horn-air-system
And I have the following horn:
http://www. buel.l airhorns .com/*****-10-air-horn-pr-16154.html
(the Bu ell 10" horn)
Basically a Bu ell I don’t know why its censored out. I’m not trying to advertise them or anything.
In the future I plan on buying the 12" horn and hooking them up together.
The following vehicle it is going on is a 2001 Ford F150 supercrew 4x4
Any suggestions/comments/insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I tried to piece the link together, but couldn’t get it. Is it a single horn?
If so, the air package should work great. People use that setup for the shockers with 4 horns. So you could add your other horn later no problem.

That is a rather small kit, you wont get much blow time. I would suggest something with atleast 5 gallons, you really wont be sorry.

I’m not looking for blow time. I’m mainly using these to replace my stock horn when somebody cuts me or something. Mainly for alerting people.

I think it’s perfect. People buy that air kit for shockers (4 horns). I assume they get at least a few seconds of honk time. You’ll get 4 times that with only one horn.
That product page does say 3 gallons recommended. It consumes 15CFM A 100psi so if you were really concerned you could do the math on a 2 gallon tank.

Haha well thanks but I work in public safety. That’s how I got my horn in the first place.

What’s CFM? Also I do plan on getting that second horn so should I step up my tank size?
Is the only thing that is lacking the tank? Compressor is good right?

Ok so I’m gonna bump it up to a 5 gallon tank
Which is a better kit this one at 150psi and more cfm
http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=hornair-540-horn-air-system
Or this kit with 200 psi but lower cfm
http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=hornair-548-horn-air-system
This is gonna be for 2 horns with the possibility of upgrading

I would go for the 200psi as the compressor is 100% duty cycle, that might not affect you tho as I dont know how much you are going to be honking.
Even get the 480c and a 150psi pressure switch. The 400c are quick at filling up but need more cool down time as they work.
How ever if you arent going to be honking a ton then the system with the 400c should suit you quite nicely.

Ok cool. So does that system have everything i need to get it going or do I need to buy anything else?
Also I was looking to buy a line master switch and use that to honk the horns. Is that possible?

I would get some loctite 545 instead of the tape and for the most part the kit will have everything you will need.

ImAti0n:
What’s CFM?
Cubic feet per minute.
The air kit doesn’t come with a solenoid valve. Do you already have a valve?
You can have a master shutoff switch for the compressor, and you need a button to honk the horn. They are 2 different things - not sure what you’re asking.

No I don’t have a valve. whats the solenoid valve for?
I was hoping to get the linemaster switch for honking.
I thought the compressor would just go on as it needs to refill the tank since it would be hooked up to my battery?
Solenoid valve is for honking, so if you have another plan, that’s cool.
The HornAir 248 or 540 comes with a pressure switch that will turn your compressor on & off.

In regards to CFM, be aware that many manufactures release those specs at 0 PSI. I think it’s dumb because what can you do with 0 PSI? Ratings at 100 PSI are much better if you can find them.
perfect. thanks for the help
Hey everyone sorry to resurrect this thread from 3 years ago.
Never ended up buying a kit cause I sold the truck and bought a car, but ended up selling my car and buying a 2015 Ford f-250. So now I want these horns set up!
I still have my B.uell air horns. 10" and 12" so now I need a system to power them. Not looking for any long horn time just something to get these horns up and running and sounding great.

Hornblasters has all kinds of air compressor kits and many accessories to complete a system.
