I was wondering if you guys could point me into the right direction as to what train horn i should get… im looking for a good loud kit but i dont want to spend but like 200-250$ on the kit.
Any suggestions?
$200-250 is not a lot of dollars if you’re looking at a whole kit (i.e. air compressor, tank, fitting + horns).
At that price you’re probably only limited to some of the el’chepo options on eBay.
If you can stretch your budget a little further, look at the Shocker kits sold by Hornblasters. They are probably the loudest and best value non-genuine train horn kits around.
yeah thats true. i say 200-250 because my gf wants to get it for my birthday and i could/would probable throw in a 100 or so to get it better but idk if i could do much more than 350 lol. for that i can lift my truck 4"
what would be something around the 300-350 maybe?
i seen they have the Jackass and the bandit but idk they dont sound deep enuff from the video they show displayed…?
You could look at something like a Grand General, which is another take on a triple horn setup (like the Jackass ). There’s a few videos on this forum if you go searching. They seem to get some pretty favourable reviews for their sound.
There’s also the truck type horns (e.g. Grovers) which are long and slender and therefore deeper sound (but they won’t sound like a train). Your only other options would be to scour the 2nd hand sales to see if you can pick up the bits needed.
Welcome to the forum. Regardless of where you start, you’ll probably want to upgrade in the near future anyway, most people do.
agree with dan once you start you will be addicted and want to upgrade I had 4 different setups all on a very small budget.(bad boy electic, boat horn w/co2 and garbage truck takoffs with HPA(paintball tank) It was jut not enough Now i have the shockers and I LOVE THEM :D:D:D I will be upgrading to real train horns in the future but the Shockers are WAY LOUDER AND WAY MORE FUN than all of the rest combined SAVE UP YOUR $$$ WELL WORTH IT!!!:D:D:D:D
I say spend the extra time and save some more. You’ll get more enjoyment out of a set of Shockers than you will raising your truck. I started with PVC Horn set that my son and I built (which are LOUD) but found after a couple months that I wanted louder. I just broke down and bought the Conductors Special Model 540’s. Trust me, it’ll be worth investing in a bigger set. If you have a tight budget to start on but want to play, go on eBay and look up Dozerboymiller’s PVC Horn plans for $15. They were fun to build and LOUD. I’ve made grown men jump 3 feet in the air trying to dodge the train!!
