I have been on this web site for a couple of weeks and you talked me into spending 1100.00 I have always wanted train horns on my truck so after reading this web site for hours I got Nathan K3LA off of Tom Aker in SC, I got a 12 gallon tank from Summit Racing and dual 450C compressors. I went today and got 1/2 truck air line with the fittings All the wire terminals 1/2 electric switch. The truck is in the heated garage drying out for tomorrow. I should have it finished up this weekend. Its starting to snow tonight (Morgantown Wv) Is this a good starter set of horns???
Yeah, I’d say that’s a good starter set! haha Plenty of air.
You mentioned taking the driveshaft out…Is that just for ease of install?
A good rule of thumb is to not mount anything above a driveshaft or axle.
Nice truck-
Yes I will bolt the tank to the bed cross members it will be 8 inches above the drive shaft and towards sthe diesel tank. That gives the drive shaft plenty of room to flex up and down. The drive shaft only moves about 3 inches. It will not be directly above the shaft any way, it will be closer to the diesel tank the drive shaft is just in the way I will put the shaft back in the truck…
Can the horns mount behind the transfer case and face forwards?? or will road dirt hurt them im putting bonnets on them,
Ill slightly tilt them down so water will drain out
No kidding those K3 are Monsters. I rolled under the truck on the creeper with the horns and they were huge. They will tuck right in nicely. I have to fab a mount in the morning. I gues most people ust the 1/2 hole to supply air to the horns?? Insted of the holes on the side 3/8 I think.
Yeah, that’s the idea. If it’s too hard to get the airline & fitting above the horn & through your mount, you can use a side port…or better yet - tee off the main line and use 2 - 3/8" ports.
Well the K3 is installed, the video dosnt do it any justice, that was only at 100 psi tomorrow it will be 145 psi. I can fill the tank manualy with my shop compressor. The install went great I fabed a bracket for the chims and mounted the tank. Tomorrow will be the compressors and the spring toggle switch. It will go between the driver seat and the center consol there is about an icnch of space for the switch.
my gosh it dosnt need to be louder, my teeth fillings still hurt (no joke) I had ear protection on but my teeth hurt. I have the 1-2-4A what other 2 do I need to have the K5? My father in law herd me over 2 miles down the road…
