Jus checking to see if anyone had problems with their vehicle’s idle after the install, and what had to be done to fix it. My truck barely seems like it is running when I slow down or come to a stop.I got in touch with Garrett today (who was a great help). For starters I was powering my valve from my batt instead of an acc. fuse. So i am going to fix that, and troubleshoot some more. I also unhooked the train horn system(S4) from my batt and I am still having idle problems. He also suggested doing something with the throttle body spacer. Anyone have any input on this? Thanks. Jason
By the way, I give HornBlasters an A+ in the customer service department.
It sounds like you may have knocked a vacuum line off somewhere, or kinked one. The electrical draw from the compressor shouldn’t affect your idle accept to speed it up to to get the alt. to produce more amperage. Just my $.02.
And throttle body spacers=snake oil.
alright well now my service engine light came on so i am getting kind of nervous. I am hoping this has nothin to do with my horns. and whatcha mean by snake oil. I don’t know all of the lingo yet. And how do I check it?
Snake oil=intended to decieve you. TB spacer is a scam, much like the Turbonator. I don’t think the airhorn is causing your problems, but maybe your install is. If your not a pretty good wrench and your shoving all this equipment under you vehicle thats technically not supposed to be there, your install may be to blame. I would go through piece by piece what you did and look for something that may be loose, kinked, unplugged or broken. Also test you electrical system to make sure its charging and also make sure your not grounding something out. It may be something as simple as a loose plug wire or vacuum line.
It would also be benificial to list or tell what kind of vehicle it is.
ohh yea. sorry. Its a 2005 F-150 4.6l. I am going to check it all out later in the week. I have heard that I may need to clean the TB, check the IAC, possibly need a new fuel filter, or it could also be the tps. I guess I will start eliminating them one by one. And if something was grounded out, wouldn’t I have eliminated that problem by taking the power for the horns off, or am I missing something? Thanks again. Appreciate it
You can check your IAC with volt meter, or a new one is about 25-30 $.
If your problems started immediately after your install, I would still think you loosened something. You should be able to go to a mechanic and he can get the code from the computer which will def save you some time and unnessary replacement of parts. I don’t how many times I have gone to a garage, explained my situation to a wrench, and gotten something for free, but I still leave the guy a $10 or $20 for his trouble.
Awesome. I think that I heard that I can get the code from auto zone too. Thanks for all the help. I can’t tell you how much I have learned from using forums. Once I get the code I’ll post back and let you know what it ends up being. Jason
It’s most likely just a sensor if your engine light is on, but you could just be throwing a missfire code. When was your last tune up?
Let us know what code it comes up with and you can work from there.
alright. so here it it. tried to run the scan tool and it started throwing out a bunch of erratic codes, come to find out I was missing a 20amp fuse that was making it freak out. After all of that was cleared, ran it again. It gave a a P0300 (random misfire detected), P0506 (idle air valve circuit fault). cleared the codes an then gave a road test. The idle still dropped when I braked. Cleaned out the Throttle body, reset pcm, and had to perform an idle relearn procedure. Now its running normal and NONE of the problems were related to my horn install!!! WOOHOOOO!!! Thanks for all of the help again guys
