Turning compressor on/off without a flip switch.

Hi, I have installed a shocker 228vx kit, and my compressor is wired directly into the battery, with a switch installed between the battery and the compressor.

I have been trying to figure out how to set up something that I can wire into a place that is only hot that will tell the compressor to turn on only when the vehicle is on, without having to directly wire the compressor through something else. In other words I want to keep the compressor wired directly to the battery, but don’t want to use a flip switch.

Cliff Notes:
-Have Shocker 228vx Kit
-Wired compressor directly through battery
-Want compressor to only be able to turn on while vehicle is on.
-Don’t want a flip switch inside vehicle

-Thanks!

Do you have a pressure switch?

You’ll need to use an ignition source so it shuts off with the car. But the compressor draws too much juice to hook directly to an ignition source. So you will have to use a relay and let the ignition source simply trigger the relay.

Welcome to the forums.

Welcome.

Thanks! Any advice on what type of relay? Sorry I’m a little fresh to 12 volt electronics, don’t want to ruin the car. lol

no prob.
Just a standard 12v relay from the auto parts store. It’ll probably be rated for 30 or 40 amps.

Thanks for your help. Give me a week or two and I will have everything finished and I’ll share pics. Thanks again!

Easiest way is to just order the pre-wired pressure switch and relay from Hornblasters, then it will all work automatically based of the tank pressure. You will never have to switch it on and off again.
