Ugh...fuse keeps blowing...shocker 240 trouble

I suppose the only way I could think is to get an Amp meter and measure the draw on the battery when the comp kicks in.
Or I would, personally put in a 40Amp fuse, however this could cause problems, but some how I doubt it would. Under fault conditions this fuse would still blow as it is considerably smaller than the gauge of wiring your horns are wired in.

But please be careful…I dont want to be the cause of damage to your motor due to over rated fusing.

This is my opinion only…If it pops a 40A fuse, I would say the windings of your compressor (even after 2weeks) could very well be faulty!

Here are the pictures of the fuses that keep busting.

Holy F**k. By damage to your motor you don’t mean my rpm’s going hogwild and my idol acting retarted do you? I just got my car fixed because of that…

Pmsl…no…I ment as in damage to wiring within your car (motor)

Looking around, some compressors can drawer 28Amps etc, the fuse you are using is rated at 30A. What compressor are you running? maybe like I said put in a 40Amp fuse, this I’m sure will cure your problem.

Woz your two week old compressor bought brand new?? It could be faulty??

If the compressor is pulling higher amps at restart, it could be a check valve issue. If the head stays loaded and restarts, the compressor can pull high amps - which will blow the fuse. How old is the compressor again, and what model?

I bought the upgraded shocker 240 set, so I got the viair 480c. The day I bought it was march 13th. So I’ve had it for maybe two or three weeks.

I used both of the 40amp fuses that came with the train horn kit. I ran out of them and them bought 5 30amp fuses. They’re all gone now too. The compressor was new when I got it in the hornblasters kit

I really want to find out what’s wrong with it. I might go to a car audio place and see if they know whats up. I don’t want to spend the money, but I’m really itching to get it fixed. I think Ill call hornblasters tomorrow, and then I might go to the car audio shop. This is just a pain in the butt…I hope its not something I did.

My thoughts also…or bad windings…

Very unlikely that the motor has issues, we’ve built an astronomical number of compressors, that typically last for years.

O.K. Can you give me any more specific details on an amp meter? I’m googling the heck out of it but I can’t find one for my situation (putting it in a car). Maybe it goes by anyother name in the states? Thanks dude! Also, it wouldn’t be in any way bad for my train horn system or car, right? Thanks again!

Basically a volt meter? if so stinger makes some really nice and accurate ones

I don’t see how this would help me though. I mean does it cap the amps at a certian amount or does it just show me when it the amperage is jumping? And should I put this before the fuse?

wait i think i misundetstood what u were talking about… the volt meter does nothing but tell u what ur voltage is

But how would that help me? I thought it would only let 40amps run through the wire. Is their anything like that I could buy? If their is, it might fix my problem. I’ve used two different power wires, two different fuse holders, and I replaced quite a few wires.
Has this ever happened before? I fell so left in the dark…about half a grand worth of horns in my car thats inoperable :frowning:
I’m going golfing right now but later I might take a video and explain everything in detail so everyone can see whats going on with it and possibly I can fix it.

once again to everyone, I appreciate all the help and I’m sorry If I sound bitchy or am asking a lot of questions.

Just trying to assess a problem…I have had no problems with any Viair compressors, old or new.

ok well tonight my neighbor said it is without a doubt my compressor. I’m not saying that it is, but is the compressor under warranty? I mean…I just want my train horn fixed. I really don’t think it can be anything else…

u bought it from hornblasters? if so call them they will help you out for sure they are awesome

Thanks dude, I will talk to them on monday for sure.

It does sound to me that its ya compressor dude, it still looks like its an overload to me rather than a short circuit. Is it still blowing a 40Amp fuse?
