I just got the shocker xl horns with 5 gallon tank and a 480c compressor.
My question is I thought they would be louder. What can I do? Can I change lines or and another set of shockers horns. My compressor goes to 200 psi
What is the best way to mount the horns to the front or back. I have them mounted in my bed till I can make brackets facing back
Please help!!!
Anyone selling a set of Nathan’s horns
Thanks Tom
U have the Shocker XL horns, they are pretty loud! But going up to 200 Psi would not make them louder, its the air Flow, not the pressure. But if you want it louder you will have to Throw on some Leslie’s or Nathan’s depending on which tone you like.
If you want the shockers themselves to be at their loudest and best-sounding, sound them at 150 psi with a 1/2" air line. The only way to get truly louder is to get some Nathans or Leslies. Not a P-3 or a P-5 though, those horns are roughly equal in volume to the shockers.
I have a half inch valve that goes Into the four way split to I believe the 1/4 " line theat they give you can you change that to 1/2". Also if I add more shocked horns will it be louder or no
Also how much louder are Nathan air chimes or Leslie’s
I have the shockers and the Nathan airchime k3la. When i want to blast someone to get attn: i use the shockers. When i want to leave a lasting impression, i use the airchime
How much louder are we talking with your kl3a horns? Is there a real difference easy to tell? I want to sound like a train
The K series horns are higher pitched. If you want to sound like a train then you need to get horns that come from a train.
My K5LA sounds sweet at night: http://youtu.be/TJ5bz0zBBAc
Welcome to the forum. You came to the right place.
Thanks. Got any tips for me?
That’s the best way to have them. You can’t run 1/2" line to the shockers, because the inlet is only about 1/4". You can run 1/2" to the solenoid, but the 4 way splitter is 1/4" like you said.
If you took some photos of your setup we can probably offer some advice. The way they are mounted will have a big impact on how loud they are. You will have a hard time getting louder than the shockers. Going with a real set of train horns will sound different, but not much louder. The sound might carry of a great distance, but the shockers are probably the best to get a jump out of people. The k5’s are the best sounding imo. Those have the most authentic train sound.
Adding more shockers will in face make them quieter. If you want them to be louder, take away one of the horns and plug up the extra spot on the manifold.
Buy a k5. You won’t regret it.
So is it possible to mount K5la with the shocker kit? I have already upgraded to the 1/2"kit and have an extra 1/4" spot on my output manifold… Do the Nathans hookup to that or would that require another release valve to run them both simultaneously?
Yep Depending what Shocker Kit you have. All you need is a extra PTC fitting for the tank, some air line, and a PTC for the K5 and a valve.
Yeah, hopefully you have an extra port on your tank because they should have their own line & valve.
You could wire both valves to the same button if you wanted though.
When I had both (shockers and a K3LA) installed, the Nathans would drown out the Shockers. All you could hear was the K3’s. I went the cheap route the first time, and it didn’t take long for me to realize I needed a K3. It’s worth the extra money. I’m not sure how it would sound with all of the horns running off of one line, I had mine split going into 2 solenoid valves.
My shockers running 1/2 inch line to 1/4 are loud! I have mine facing foward under the passenger side of my pickup and they’re plenty loud in any direction.
couldnt you just open up the orrifice in the diaphram a little to increase loudness?
