What direction??

I’m installing my air horn on the inside of the frame rail (just forward of the box / cab split) on an F350.

My first thought was installing the horn facing forward and slightly behind the transfer case. Thought was this would minimize water and other debris from entering the horn.

From reading this forum, it seems that placing it behind the transfer case may significantly lower the volume.

Next thought, same location, but facing the rear.

Which is better (IYO) to ensure the best overall performance?

Also, looking at placing so there’s a slight downward slope for the water to drain out.

Is this a good idea?

If you face the horn down, the sound is evenly dispersed. And it keeps water/debris out of them. That is the way i would install them if you can. By the way, what horns are you going to install? If they are REAL train horns such as Nathan or Leslies, these are built to withstand the elements. Also, you can purchase “smoke screens” off of e-bay to keep rocks ect. out of them if you want. If you are installing hornblaster horns, i am not really familiar with these kits. Maybe somebody else will chime in. But I am sure that these kits are built to withstand the elements also.

First time around, so I ended up going with a single 15" Shocker.

Seems like adequate quality and has a nice deep sound which is what I wanted. Of course the kicker was I got it along with a 1.1 cfm Thomas compressor, and 2 gallon (guessing) tank for $75 (all new). Figured for that price I could play around and eventually upgrade when I know what I want for sure.

Thanks for your response.
