I’ve had my K3 on for 3 months now, and I don’t pull the valve very often at all. I am pretty conservative unless I’ve been drinking, and I’m really afraid that will get me in trouble!
Other people however are just thrilled with my horn, and thrilled they know somebody that HAS a big horn. I find people I meet know I have the horn before they know me because people talk. And this is without me blowing it very often at all.
For instance, right after I put it on a group of my friends were going for a bike ride and I wasn’t going along. So I went down to my neighbor’s house and they were all staging there getting ready (I live in the country) and when I pulled in the drive I gave the GW valve a good tug… Of course they all crapped their pants and the horn was all the rage. But since then it seems everyone these people talk to they mention that they know someone with a train horn on his truck and just like stories of gunslingers in the old west, the legend precedes the truck.
Now when I am parked I need to lock the truck or someone will sneak over and blow the horn. It really gets old because I DO NOT want to be well known as having a train horn…
I probably only blow it once a week or less. Sometimes it’s just out on a lonely back road to make sure it still works and let some air go through the horns.
My wife wanted me to have the truck in the 4th of July parade blowing the horn… I mean come on… The thing is way too loud for something like that…
And I must report I missed the best opportunity in the world last weekend… I wanted to go to a local car show but forgot, and some of my gang was there when they held a ‘muffler competition’. I guess you pull your car or truck out to a central location and rev the engine and the crowd cheers for the best and loudest exhaust… One of my buddies wanted to call me and get the truck down there quick… He thought it would be the funniest thing to pull my big 4x4 out there and rev the ultra quiet diesel a but and then let it die down and when the crowd started booing… Let loose with the K3
There’s always next year… and I won’t forget this time… Neither will the spectators!!!
Oh, an important point to note… In my sleepy little area I (or any of my friends) have never heard a train horn on any vehicle… I have the only one for like 100 miles… That’s kind of cool!!
