which direction??

I know where i’m going to mount my horns but is there a way that is better. Pointing to the passenger side?? Pointing straight down???

I’ve said this before… As loud as these things are… I don’t think it matters… I have 4 trumpets on my truck facing forward/backward. Then I have a K3LA facing forward. They are all loud and all are heard no problems.

Mine face to the rear right now. It doesn’t matter.

I have faced mine forward, to the rear, and the side. And they are loud enough that they will be heard no matter which direction they face.

I’m ordering today!!! I’m so stoked!! Hopefully INSTALLATION isn’t that bad? It will take a few days cause I work 6 days a week and have 3 kids but when I do get those bad boys mounted I will post a couple of pictures…My Brother works for Kansas City Southern, I wonder if he can get me the real deals?? Thanks for your comments everyone.

Sweet post pics when done

One application where I have noticed that it does make a difference, is in tunnels when your vehicle is in a lane against a side of the tunnel.
If the horns are facing towards the wall your vehicle is against, the echo is crazy.

I see this everyday with my set up. I have 3 of my 4 horns facing the passenger side, so when I am in the right-hand lane, fellow drivers go absolutely bonkers but when in the left lane, I never get a honk from others.

edit: rarely get a honk from others. Depends…

Hmmmmm I woz always led to believe they are loudest pointing downwards, it creates a massive explosion of soundwaves??? However, I can see the logic in directional horns if one woz going for big juicy echos!:D:D

I have them facing forward now, but when I use to have them facing down, it felt ALOT louder. I could feel the sound waves vibrating back up my pants.

Gotta agree with Pete on this one. My K3LA points down and I’m heard at 1.5 miles (2.4km for our friends across the pond) at 165 psi and 5 gallons.

^^^^^^
Hahahaha mate, were in “miles” over here & not kilometres

Yeah, but the UK isn’t the only place across the pond.

LOL, but its the only place that matters:D

stoneylm1998, this is what they sound like facing down as I drove away:

All in, my install was 3 hours over the course of a few days as I have a few kids too.

What are you installing it on?

That’s very true as we have the most in common

When i’m in the right hand lane in a tunnel with my passenger window all the way down, my teeth vibrate! Need to remember to keep my jaw open.

When I’m in the right hand lane, and have the driver side window just cracked open, the rear sliding window open while farting I can rattle the car next to me

The only difference in sound I notice, is like someone else mentioned…when your are against a large structural wall. If the horns are facing the wall you’re close to, it will reflect and magnify the sound.

As for the ground playing into it…I can’t speak from experience like some of these guys can, as far as having the horns pointing down. I can tell you though, that with the horns on my Trailblazer SS, they are noticeably louder on it…versus when the identical setup was on my 2007 Tundra. I can only conclude that they are louder since they’re closer to the ground. They are over a foot lower, in fact. Almost identical install, and all the same components.

Haven’t ordered yet but I’ve researched for about a month now and I really like the Shocker 240’s. I found them on the web for 499.00 and the guy told me “the web guy messed it up”. So monday he is calling me back. I’m putting them on a 2005 Chevy Silverado. My only problem is mounting the tank and compressor. I don’t know if I should buy a toolbox or mount it under my back seat?? Really stumped on this one. I don’t want to have to drill holes in my cab?? Any ideas??

Mounting in a tool box is a clean and pretty easy way to mount things. But mounting under the back seat is also clean just the only downfall is it tends to be a little loud.
