Which is Louder

Which is louder… The K5LA or the kahlenberg t-3

I know they have different pitches. But for distance traveled and loudness which is better

thanks

The Kahlenberg T-3a is specified at 142.2 dB.

My Kahlenberg D-1 horns are specified at 134dB. When I attempted to measure the loudness it pegged the meter scale at 130dBA.

My horn system is hands-down the loudest I’ve heard, at the level of mega yachts and cruise ships. If there is land nearby, my horns will echo off the shore. The tonal quality is amazing.

It is not appropriate for me to use my horns if anyone is on the bow of my boat, in front of the horns.

The Kahlenberg chrome plating is very impressive.

A specification sheet for the Nathan K5LA was not located that specifies the loudness of that horn.

The manufacturer’s specification sheet on the Micro Precision Group web site is password protected.

This site has useful information about the variations on the Nathan K5 series horns, including sound clips.

This topic has information on maintaining the Nathan horn. FWIW, the Kahlenberg Chimetone air horns are specified to not ever need maintenance.

IMO, the Nathan horns sound like a train and the Kahlenberg Chimetone horns sound like a large yacht. If price is an issue, then the Nathan cost much less for new horns. If eye candy is required, then the finish on the Kahlenberg horns is unrivaled. The bronze, brass and stainless on the Kahlenberg horns is suited for hostile conditions.

Here is a Kahlenberg triple horn for sale on Craig’s List, with a very nice horn support structure.

yah i gotta buy the boat first LOL

What is the problem?

Do you something nicer to mount the horn onto?

BTW, I would love to own that yacht!

Money. My friend. Money

OMG the interior of that yacht – it’s like stepping back in time. It was super modern for its day (very 1980’s by today’s standards) … except for the mirrors. But today, umm, scary!
