Which Kit to buy?

Hi guys,

I just bought a 1998 crown victoria, and one of my friends from Texas that is up here has a car with a train horn with it connected to his aftermarket alarm system.

He has a 2 horn setup.

I want to get a good setup and set it up to my aftermarket security system…

please help me by giving me the best setup kit for a train horn that is fairly cheap… i dont want to spend like 1800… or anything ridiculous just maybe $300-$400 from what i see online.

any help would be great.

Also how to set it up with an aftermarket alarm system so that when the alarm goes off, the train horns go off…

Thats the kit I started out with, I later upgraded the tank and compressor but it still will scare people and you will have a lot of fun with it. as for the alarm, there are a couple ways, The easiest way is to find the horn that honks whether it be the factory horns or a different horn that honks specifically with the alarm and splice into one of those horns (you normally have 2 horns on a car) for the power to the valve. you would then have a toggle switch on that so you can turn it off, and when its on. you can hit the horn on the steering wheel and the train horns will go off with the factory horns. also, if you leave the toggle on, then if you hit the panic button on your car or the alarm goes off. The train horns will go off as well.

tell me this, with this kit connecting to an alarm… how long will this blast before it runs out of air or is this like a normal compressor that will turn on when it gets low so it will keep pressure a lot longer and blast longer?

If you have the compressor setup for “key on power”, meaning that the compressor will not turn on while the engine is off (and not drain your battery) then the horns will sound for as long as you’ve got air pressure.

Once the air pressure runs out, they won’t honk.

so what do most poeple do? just buy bigger tanks? i’m wondering would if somebody tried to rob your car… and your train horn went off then ran out… could you have it setup so the other alarm would go off at the same time so if the train horn ran out of air… the other one would keep going??

or how long will a horn last… im just not trying to have it start to go off the run out of air… and have nothing going if that makes sense.

i’m sure you could find a system that could run the train horns from an auxilliary output alongside the alarm siren, that way once your air is gone the siren would keep going

could possibly set it up to operate the horn from the keyfob too, which opens up a whole load more scare opportunities

EDIT: just realised you already have an alarm, you could possibly take a feed from the siren to operate the horn solenoid

im talking to my friend now… he didn’t install it so it is hard to get answers from him…

he said that his 2 horn kit and i havent asked… i doubt he knows what size tank he has … but it is setup so that it never runs out of air…

he some how had it installed so after so much pressure the compressor will turn on and keep powering the horn.

HOW do i do this? He doesn’t have any extra buttons installed like some people do to turn the compressor on… or another button for the train horn…

how do you do this?

you need to wire the pressure switch on the tank to a permanent live feed instead of an ignition live. i have mine on a separate toggle switch so i can turn it off if i need to.

it means that if you get a leak in your system and leave the compressor on it will drain the battery though so be careful

how common are pressure leaks? Because the only reason I would buy a train horn is for my alarm…

if it would be better to have the train horn in line or whatever with the alarm so that BOTH the train horn and alarm would go off and then say the train horn ran out… the other would keep going then i guess that would be fine…

but if they are not that common to get a air leak… then i don’t see why not hook the train horn up so it will stay on… what do you mean a live feed? how would you hook it up to a “live feed”?

it needs to be one that is permanently on, or just wire it direct to the battery.

like i said i’ve got mine hooked up to the battery, but with an inline switch so i can turn it off if needed

i’ve had a couple of leaks, but i think that was just down to me rushing the install!

the trouble with bigger horns is that they use up air FAST, my cheapo triple horns drop my 1.5 gallon tank by 50psi per 1 second blast!

so i don’t know if the compressor could keep up for long

okay tell me this…

im looking at getting the rocker 2 gallon only 2 horn setup…

if i get this, Is it indeed possible to get it done so that the horn will go off and the alarm wil go off… then if the train horn run out the aftermarket alarm will keep sounding?

because im guessing if the tank is full… and someone tries to break in… and for a few big blows of a train horn plus 5 minutes of the alarm they will be gone!!!

i should think that would probably put them off lol

it should be possible to do, just found this on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0tDmv-70WI

says in the notes he spliced it into the alarm horn

YES haha that is the video i saw! i want that!

this just made me think…

maybe i could hook it up to an on/off switch…

i could keep it off so during the day time i would just use the normal alarm… then at night i could leave it on so if somebody messed with it the horn would come on…!!!

make sense?
