Why is it that???

Hey folk’s just wondering??? i live about 2 miles from RR crossing west of my home. and 4 miles east theirs another RR crossing. sometimes when im outside working on my cars i can hear the trains . at any of the both crossings. just how much lowder can a k-3 or a k-5 be against two sets of schockers?? what makes the k’s so loud, and the distance they can be heard from?? i wonder what shockers on top of a train would do?? i had my brother n law drive a ways away on my durango witch has two sets of shockers and one P5 # 4 Bell. try it fom same distance . 2 miles away and i can hear it just bearly’’ kinda makes you think you got nothing?:frowning: . and you would think at least it be close?? but not even close.

Remember trains have an unobstructed horn mounted ontop of the engine, well most do anyway. Mine is where the spare tire used to be so I can tell from a distance it is not as loud as a loco.
