Wire and fuse size

ill start by saying that i dont know what kit this is or even if its hornblasters, i bought it from a buddy who took it off a truck he bought, niether him or me know anything about it

i am wondering what size wire i need to run to my comp…i will be coming from a upfitter switch that can supply 30A. the comp shows that it will pull 16A max. i have #16 size wire to use, will this be big enough…i kinda dont think so.

my other question, i will prolly run a wire from my battery to a button in my cab then to the solenoid valve, im sure #16 will work for that but, do i need to fuse that circuit, i would like to but i dont know how many amps the valve pulls.

the valve is almost the exact same as http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=1-4-in-chrome-air-valve

any help will be appriciated…thanks

I have #14 wire for my compressor. I don’t know how many amps the valve draws but it can’t be that much. And I put everything on a fuse just to be safe.

thanks, now that i think of it, im pretty sure the leads out of the comp are #16

and the upfitter switch is fused already… for the valve, i will prolly buy an inline fuse and put a 5 or 10A fuse in there

If the leads out of the comp are 16AWG, use some little bit bigger 14AWG. The smaller and longer the wire is, the more resistive the wire is giving a bigger drop of voltage. Using bigger wire will counter that.

Also, if it says it will take 16amp while running, it WILL need more than 16amp at start-up. I don’t remember how to exactly calculate it, but if you use a 20amp fuse, as close to the battery as possible, you should be ok.
