Wiring help

so my girl surprised me and got my train horns installed that I have had for a while now. They have it wired to a switch that switches between my regular horn and the train horns. I see they also used some relays. I dont like how when it is switched on, you first hear my regular horn and then the train horn kicks in. How do I change that so just the train horn goes off? Also how do i change the wiring so that the switch also shuts off the compressor? Is the tank supposed to empty when the car turns off?

They were probably covering their ar$e by making your stock horn work no matter what.

Is your solenoid valve mounted on the tank or closer to the actual horns? There can be a delay while the line gets pressurized between the valve & the horn. If it’s near/on the tank, move it as close to the horns as possible. They’ll come on quicker & sharper.

If you really don’t want your stock horn with trainhorn, you’ll have to get into the wiring. I’m going to do mine with a SPDT / 5 pin / bosch style relay. You’ll have to see what type of relay they used.

Your tank might lose some pressure when the car is off, it won’t just automatically drain until empty.

You’re pressure switch should get it’s power from a ‘key on’ source. That way the compressor won’t run with the engine off. If you want a master compressor cutoff switch, put it between the ‘key on’ source and the pressure switch.

Welcome to the forums.

Welcome, I suggest asking the people who did the install.

what they did was probably how i did my first setup, now i didnt have a relay other than on the pressure switch but it shouldnt matter.

Your car/truck normally has 2 horns, and they probably cut into one of those wires and set it up like that. to make it sound on its own, you will have the wire running from the solenoid/valve to a toggle switch or push button switch, from there you will want to connect it to the + battery terminal on your battery. so cut valve wire that is connected to your horn, add a ring terminal, and then hook it up to the battery.

That should make the train horn sound when you hit the toggle or push button switch and when you honk on your wheel, just the normal horn should sound…

Hope that helps, welcome

Thanks…I hear the tank draining when i shut the car off and it empty’s to the point that the horn doesnt sound… ??

Sounds like a huge leak.
Does your compressor kick on all the time when the car is running?

Maybe do what Dan said…take it to the people who installed it. If your GF paid money for the install, they owe you a reasonably leak-free system. Or at least undo the self draining “feature” whatever it might be. While you’re there, you might ask them about your wiring.
