I am new to the train horn thing but have been researching about them. I have had one of the wolo truck air horns with the tini compressor for a while now and was wondering if it would do any better or do damage if I was to run 100psi to it.
Hi. I’m a Wolo owner too, but we can’t really call our toys “train horns” if you compare them to the stuff most of the guys on this forum have
What model do you have. I have the 847 a.k.a “Siberian Express” and their recommended pressure is 80-130 PSI.
I also used to have wolo model 402 horns that came with a tiny compressor. The compressor output about 15PSI, but i was running the horns off an air duster can which is about 90 PSI and they didn’t break. The 402s are the smallest horns Wolo sells, so if mine didn’t break at 90 PSI, i’m sure yours will take 100, especially if they’re a bigger model.
I have the 845 Road Warrior and I hooked it up to my tank today and its much louder and sounds much better now. Its a big rig sound not a train horn sound. I have also been trying out building my own pvc horns to get the train horn sound and I have 2 of them but I just need to get them tuned to the right sound.
Oh I’m sure that horn will take 100PSI no problem.
Nice choice.
Welcome to the forum.
If you want a cheap but loud horn I’d just buy Dan’s PVC train horn booklets from eBay and build some. With careful craftsmanship you can make them sturdy and they will be much louder than your typical budget train horn. Just make sure you have at least a 1/2" air line if you have multiple horns, but reduce it to about 1/8" for each individual horn. The booklets show this.
