Ok, got my Nathan K5s, ended up not getting them for free, had to pay 250. But it’s still a deal! Got a guy that got 2 compressors, and a 12 gal tank for 200 bucks, he is going to see if he can get a deal on that for me too.
My first question, more to come later, but what do y’all do to paint them. I was thinking of taking 180 or 220 grit and then using the rustoleum bed liner on them.
Ok, so afew more questions. What all is involved in the break down and rebuild of the horns. I want to paint them black, I know I half to start with the self etching primer. I will also clean them with some solvent that will remove all oil and stuff like that.
I believe I read somewhere there were some oranges or seals, are they a one time use, if I brake the seal will I half to replace them?
Remove the bells from the manifold. Unbolt the back plates and inspect the cushions (2 per bell) and diaphragm. Replace if needed (post a pic if you’re not sure). Tape off where you don’t want the paint and it’ll be fine.
Reverse the process to put them back together.
Just check out some of the paint job threads and you’ll see exactly what you need to do and you’ll be set.
Ok, anyone ever thought of running your horns off a scuba tank( 3,000psi) with a regulator? I have a buddy that was telling me about the idea. I got another buddy that is probably going to do it. I told him to get some NOS tank brackets that are a quick release. Then he could remove the tank to refill. Any thoughts on this?
