I am trying to get my horns installed and I don’t think I have all of the parts I need. The 1/2" hose goes to a fiting the hooks up to the valve and the outlet of the valve goes to anpther fitting that goes the the 4way to the horns. The 2 fittings that I have left are not the right size. they will not fit into the valve.Am I wrong??
Once again I am off to home depot to get more parts to complete the install.
I am not happy so far. I have already had to get some parts because either they weren’t in the box or I had to make stuff work because of where I put the tank and compressor.
There is no way that these fit together. So if I go get reducers to make it fit, is that going to reduce the air going to the horns making less sound.
What do you mean “The 2 fittings that I have left” You mean the 2 fittings that attach to the valve? You explained that you have the parts, but then said “The 2 fittings that I have left” tells me that you have something extra. It could have just been a mistake and they sent you a 3/8 valve vice a 1/2" valve. Did you order the shocker XL kit? or did you order everything seperate?
I don’t think you are going to find anything you need at Home Depot as I have been looking for parts at Home Depot for a long time, and haven’t had any luck finding what I need. So I just order everything from HB
I think I do have a smaller valve because the fittings are too big. I did order the XL kit. I dont want to wait for new parts to get here. I am going to try HD just in case. I dont want to order anything. It should have been in the box… I tried to call HB, but I guess they are closed. I do hope they make it right somehow.
I understand your frustration, but the guys at HB are extremely good with their customer service. They are closed on the weekends, unfortunately. but I’m sure monday morning they will be happy to make it right.

could it have been the case that you used the parts they supplied for the kit to be installed the way they intended on your particular setup?
I know i have bought many extra fittings when i got 2 diff kits, from the other way i installed it all…
You will have to wait toill monday , but call up HB then and if it was a case that they sent something wrong , they will make it right… jsut look at all the praise they get from everyone on here!
I used all the parts where they are supposed to go. I had to make something for the pressure switch because there was not enough room to mount it where I wanted it. I bought a few of the plugs for the extra port on the tank because there weren’t any in the kit. I didn’t get instructions (No problem, I printed those off the web), the instructionsand the picture say something about the 90deg elbows for the back of the horns. I m pretty sure those were supposed to be in the kit. Those are necessary for the way i have my horns mounted. I can’t event hook them up…
I do think the valve is the smaller one. The insrtructions say 1/2" valve. The inlets are 3/8", not 1/2". I did find some reducers for the valve for now so I can at least hear them:) I am still mad though.
Well, I ran all the wires but did not hook up the one for the valve. When I turn the key on, I hear the pressure switch click but the compressor will not turn on. I ran a wire from the batt for power, the wire for the ignition from the fuse box(wiper fuse) and its grounded to the frame. It has a good ground, I used a dremel to get some bare metal.
All of the wires are correct on the pressure switch. I will try another fuse and see if that changes anything. 1 from the battery, 1 for the ground, 1 from a 12V source (fuel pump fuse) and the other to the compressor. I don’t know what else to try. I am getting pretty discouraged.
Here are some pics of my progress. I will clean up the wires once I know i am done and the extra air hose in the grill will go once i can hook up the horns…:mad:
your 12v sourse should be your battery. if you need to make it so that your only drawing power when the truck is on put a 12v switch on that wire or a relay.
the way mine is wired i have a 10gauge wire coming off the battery that goes into the pressure switch.
i have another wire going from the battery to a toggle switch then to the pressure switch(this is where you would have the ignition wire)
then i have another wire coming off the battery to a toggle switch and then into the solenoid valve(controls opening the valve)
No toggles for now. I would like one to be able to turn the comp. off when the truck is on but I’m not going to worry about that right now. I just want stuff to work.
okay i think your problem lies in the wire from the fuse box.
you have the 12v fused source the ground and wire to compressor those are alll easy
the wire that runs to the fuse box is just to tell the pressure switch to turn the compressor on only when the truck is on. if you cant find a wire that you for sure know only has power when the truck is on just run the wire straight from the battery put the toggle switch in it and that will be the wire that plugs into the part where it would have been the wire from the fuse box
I get what you are saying. I hooked up the wire in the fuse box to the fuel pump. It comes on when you turn the key. I will try to just touch it on the battery to see if the compressor turns on. BRB.
yeah do that that should tell us if its the wiring thats wrong or not
and not telling you to hit your compressor but mine is installed in my truck toolbox and when i first had it all set up it wouldnt come on…then i got mad and punched the toolbox…boom it started running
Ummm. I am a big, dumb idiot. You mentioned fuses and I remembered looking on my floor in the garage and seeing a few big fuses. I thought, hmmm, let me go look in the fuse holder. That was it… It works now. Now I am going to hook it back up in the fuse box and see if it comes on.

i had mine blow today and i was pissed as hell why wont it come on!? i kept flipping switches and hearing clicks finally when i got to lowes which thankfully i was already going to i checked and yeah it was toasted
sounds like a good idea…i think youll be much happier with controlling it yourself
