k5's on the water!!!!

So I bought this set up from Garrett last year and the system is finally operational.

So the system consists of:

K5LA air chime

12 gallon tank

triple 480 comps

5/8 OD air line

200psi pressure switch

I have about a 30 foot run from the 8D battery to the compressors, so I used 4 gauge wire to a distribution block for both pos and neg.

The horns will be painted over the winter…

I had to use about 47ft of air line to run from the tank which is in the bilge of the boat up to the top of the hard top.

Here is the gauge installed in the dash, just temporary though, all the beige garbage will be gone in the spring, it will be replaced w/ white and the 15" GPS will be centered.

So heres the good stuff!!!

But I dont think these videos for some reason do justice on how loud these horns are…

This is at 181psi

This is a full dump just over 200psi

So this is just a short video when we were coming in from partying all day…

ANd last shot of some of my crew!!! Me likey likey!!!

So much win! Thanks for posting that.
I wondered what happened to ‘that guy with the boat install’.

Great horn setup, nice boat & love the crew!

Nice setup k5s on the water would be pretty sweet.

whats up with the pressure gauge resetting itself every time you blast it?

good question and im not sure why it does that.

i have also noticed it resets for a good 5 -10 seconds even when i dont fire the horn.

does anyone else with the digital gauge have the same reset issue happening?

Make sure the grounds for the sending unit and the gauge run to the exact same spot.

very nice setup

Awesome!!! loving it on the boat!

I got boarded by the Coast Guard for a vessel inspection.

Every boat must have a horn, and it is part of the inspection for them to hear the horn.

Boy were they surprised when I fired the K5’s Lol!!!

You happen to catch their name?

Thanks!

I’m glad you Njoyed the pics!

More pics and videos on the way…

it was a guy named Cory, couldnt have been more than 25 years old and stationed in Jones Beach Coast Guard Station on Long Island…

So the sending unit is with the tank in the bilge of the boat, which is grounded to the negative distribution block that goes right to the battery.

The gauge is at the steering helm grounded with the other electronics.

I guess I could just run the gauge ground back down to the distributin block.

There is definitely something wrong with the gauge and or wiring, now the gauge will only go up to like 46 psi, but the compressors keep running until I would guess the tank is filled to 200psi and then they shut off. I know the tank is filled cause I fire the horn and I get a full blast.

Had like 10 inches of rain within 24hours here on Long Island with more to come, so I will probably not look at it until mid week.

Yeah the grounds are sensitive.
Actually they say to run the ground wire from the gauge to the sending unit and then to ground.

awesome setup.
Id say if you have an extra port on the tank to install a gauge directly on the tank also so u have a backup to look at .
I have one installed on the tank and one in the cab of my truck.

Good idea! I have one port left on the tank and have several more items still needed to be added to the system so I will have to get some “y” connectors off the tank.

The reason I started the air system is for the pocket doors leading to the bathroom and both bedrooms on the boat. Like I said they are pocket doors, so they slide into the wall not swing open to save room. Well back in 1985 this boat was equipped with a small air tank and compressor to power the doors, each door has a “air piston” to open and close the doors.

This is the manifold that has to connect to the system:

There are original thin clear tubing that connect to the manifold and run to each piston.

Here is a picture of a piston and door:

These are the “air switches” that hopefully will activate the doors:

SO then I need to connect another 1/2" brake line to run the the back cockpit of the boat to have a quick connect fitting installed for accessories… and I will be working on some type of air/water cannon for next year…

As well as install another gauge…

I will keep you posted of the progress…

Thanks for all the positive comments!!!

Got it!!

Thanks

sorry for the small pics, you cant even see the piston or switches good.

maybe i’ll take em over…

larger shot of the switches

better shot of the piston
