Leaving system pressurized 24/7

Does anyone do this? I’m wondering if the horn can somehow go off when I’m not around if I leave it pressurized…

I leave mine that way. I think most of the guys here do it too.

Very unlikely to go off whilst your not about, unless ya solinoid starts to let by, and even if it did it would at worst case not be a full on blast, only a very slow low tone.

I leave mine charged 24/7

Actually, its very possible for it to go off on its own… Happened to me twice when i had 2 faulty diaphragms with a pin hole develop in them!

First time was a couple months after i put the horn in… I just got home from work after a very long frustrating day… Went inside house and was changing clothes when all of a sudden all hell broke loose and the horn started emptying the tank! I quickly ran downstairs and was fumbling with my keys , trying to press button for solenoid , seeing if it would close and it would not . So i jumped in bed of truck and started to undo the tank drain to let out rest of air… Mean while , i had a crowd of neighbors , and lots of angry eyes on me… Including ny neighbor who was on the other side of my truck behind some shrubs cutting grass which i did not see. After it was all done , i saw him just starring straight ahead not really knowing what the hell happened! hahaha

So in mean time I installed a shutoff valve on the tank so i could manually shut air flow off at night time… Well then…

Second time was about 2 weeks later or so when i got the new valve diaphragm in… That next morning after i opened shut off , got in my truck , was driving down street about 3 houses away from mine and the thing lets go again! I was swearing up a storm!! I jumped out again (this is like 6am) got in back of truck , had to mess with tonneau , lol , and hit the shutoff again! Then, hahaha, it was a bad morning start… as i was driving to work the handle on valve wiggled loose from driving over bumpy road and i heard a low growl of horn the rest of my drive… I got some weird looks from people , lol

So, to answer your question, it is very possible for it to go off itself , and i suggest to everyone to open the valve and check those diaphragms to make sure there not depleting! Also , put a shut off on the tank so at night you dont get rudely awoken or your neighbors…

Do you think I could put a shut off valve up front? Kinda like a manual horn… Hmmmm

i leave mine pressurized all the time, i guess it would be the build quality of the valve

Its not really about the valve tho… Its about the diaphragm… Ive had the same one installed now for 1-1/2 years or so and havent had a prob… As soon as it develops a pin hole and that backpressure is let out, it opens the flood gates!

This is why i am getting rid of the solenoid for the horns and going to a manual train valve… I still am possibly putting the solenoid on the tank for a drain tho…

hmmm a solenoid on the tank is actually more of what I’m looking for I guess…

that sounds like a great idea, just something to discharge the tank at the press of a button before I leave the car at my parents place for the week (I have two cars, the bronco is for weekend stuff, another is my DD)

leave it pressurized 24/7/365 i do anot pushed the button or pulle dhte valve and they have never gone off when i have not pushed the button or pulled the valve they are also hooked to the alarm so they need to be pressurized

did i spell pressurized right?? im worn out from school guys

hahah can yall understand what i wrote…i need sleep

mines been left pressurized 24/7 for the past three years with no problem

still hasn’t happened to me…yet. that would be my worse nightmare. especially when you’re driving and the valve fails!!

the valve that I use on my horns are exactly like this one:
http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=1-4-in-chrome-air-valve

I’ve opened it and the design is immune from getting stuck open due to a diaphragm since it doesn’t have any. a short in the wiring or a switch/relay powering the solenoid getting stuck is another problem.

mine stays at 200 psi

okay. quick question about pressures since you guys all can hold a pressure in the tank. i have used loctite 545 sealant on all of the fittings in my system. waited 2 days and then pressured the system up. it will hold a pressure, but in a couple of hours it will be drained (2gallons at 150psi.) i sprayed all the fittings with soapy water and no bubbles…i double checked all the hoses and no holes. the only thing I can think of is the solenoid valve…is there any way that the valve can be leaking? ive never heard of that before but is it possible?

You know, just to come back to this. I have found that mine will not hold pressure overnight either…i’m kind of ok with that as long as the valve isnt leaking…

i mean im kinda okay with it too, its just annoying to have to pressure up the system every day. and i have my horn wired into my alarm system so godforbid my truck gets broken into, the horn will sound at full pressure…thats why i want constant pressure in the tank…and its also fun to blast people from across the parking lot:D

I have 15.5 gallons between 2 tanks and over 15 connections counting valves and both tanks and 2 sets of horns on the truck. I’m running 200 p.s.i. 24/7 and the connections are teflon taped. I haven’t had a single leak since I put it in 3 years ago. Neither have I had false blasts. The worst that has happened was one day someone cut me off and I hit the horn and the valve got stuck open.

i have a small leak of like 1 psi an hour or so… i’ve never been able to get my system completely leak free

OH DAMMM lol so 15 gallons got emptied on them?
