My newly acquired k5la

Just thought i’d share a few pics… can’t wait to install them. Took me about 5 hours to get them to look like this after all the residue and crap that they were coated with. They are bell #'s 1,2,3a,4a,5. Although there is no number on the 1 bell or an A on the three bell. Was about to ship the 3 bell off to get a 3a bell before I realized there is another way to tell that it’s an American bell LOL :o

tomorrow i’m going to start the painting process using a gunmetal for the outside and a royal blue for the back caps and inside of the flares. I’ll be using a primer and a clear coat and painting them completely disassembled. I got a self etching primer and hoping that this is the best to use.

cleaning the manifold (this part SUCKED :mad:):

they make me look tiny LOL

looks sweet i need to do the same with mine an clean the $h!+ out of them. Did you rebuild them too?

there was no need… all the internals are in good condition. I’ll just flip the diaphragms when it’s all back together

Yes the self etching primer is the best to use. Very nice set:D Post some pictures of your progress. Always love pictures. Where are you going to mount them?

gonna mount under my trunk… i’m going to have to raise the trunk floor so they have enough ground clearance… I’m still unsure if I’m going to have them all facing the rear or have some of the bells reversed and do them side to side (perpendicular to the car) like I have my shockers now

Wow sounds like you have quite the project ahead of you. I love projects like that. It took me about 8 full hours to install my K3’s along with all the compressors, tanks, wiring, ect. Turned out pretty nice though. Like I said, take plenty of picts and share:)

Awesome, looks like you’re doing it right. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Have fun!

gottem taped up and primed tonight… i’ll be finishing it off tomorrow with some awesome colors. can’t wait to see how they turn out.

This side’s finished:

Flipped them over a half hour later:

Primed and ready for some COLOR:

not as good as farmer’s painting pics though so be nice

haha. U will need about 4 cans for them.

4 cans of what?

I’m doing a different color for the outside from a can that was the same size as the primer so i think i should be set with that one can? Then i have the other can for the flares (actually it’s two because the color i wanted was only in a smaller size)

It took me 2 cans to get a good coat on my P5 that I had and it’s smaller lol. I might have used something different besides rattle can if I were you. It won’t be on there long with the horn under your vehicle.

Looking good Hornee. Although I’m no expert on the subject, I think the A would be stamper or raised on it if it were an A. Not possative.

Which leads me to my own Question.
If an A is stamped on it, how can you be certin someone didn’t just do that themselves?

you can tell by the throat depth… mine has no A on it but it actually is an A… Farmer said he’s even had bells that have the A on it that actually aren’t american lol

actually if you were me you wouldn’t because you would be on a budget! and i’m sure it will hold up to my satisfaction

I wasn’t trying to be rude. My P5 sat inside most of the time in my bedroom floor. It had several coats of just some plain Duplicolor spray paint. It scratched off so easy it wasn;t even funny. Just moving it around to mount it in the bed of my brothers truck would scratch it and I was extremely careful with it (as I am with all of my horns).

i’ll be sure to be careful… did you clear coat it as well?

No. My K3LA in my avatar is cleared though and it’s held up really well, even to the bolts in the base of the manifold holding it down. It’s automotive paint though. A body shop painted it.

here’s what they look like after today:

colors are royal blue and a gunmetal

Wow good job! Love those colors:D

thanks man!

they aren’t perfect but i think they turned out pretty good
painting these things is not easy or fun
