ok so what would u all recommend since I have them off, I have the back cap off and anything else, im going to wash them in the morning so they are ready for spring…

dont really know what else i should have to do to them besides a good washing

If the internals look good, they should be fine. Remember these are train horns, meant to be exposed to the elements. Rain, snow, sleet, sunlight, dust, etc…

thanks sir, they are covered in grime so i wanted to give em a good cleaning before i put em on the shelf :frowning:

Just clean them up and your good to go!

Yeah, Flitz it!

Hey did you drill your horns? How do your diaphrams look?

no i didnt drill em and here is some pics, i have no clue when to change em out or if these are in good shape.

here is one cleaned up

Maybe it was avfrog that drilled his horns…
I don’t have experience with worn diaphrams, but that doesn’t look terrible.

hornblasters sells their own diaphrams for them… i have a kit

The second and third look a little rough. I’d try cleaning them up, and if that doesn’t work just replace them.

Kris

Is there anything you can do to them as far as makeing them louder or anything along those lines?

drill them, run 5/8 line

So have you tried a scuff pad or anything?

Do a search for drilling out your horns. IIRC, one of the folks on here posted about using a 6mm drill bit as its a 4mm hole and 8mm was too large.

Don’t quote me … I’m going from memory, so please do the search first.

Or you could just get more horns.

Here’s one:

^ Hey that’s me!

It works, and it’s louder that hell! I have been told many times that it hurts people’s chest if they are too close to the truck. Ears ring for quite some time too.

The 3/4" valve and barb fitted 5/8" ID line is the key here…

Good luck!

Wow, those things are filthy lol especially the 2nd and 3rd. If they’re bad they will have a bow to them or be bent. You can usually tell by looking at them from the side. If not, just clean em up and you’re good to go.

thanks, they aren’t bent just dirty, I scrubbed the crap out of them and some is still their but better than before

Maybe you could try a scuff pad or some fine steel wool…

I’ll pick some up after work and see how it goes, is it okay if it scratches it?I would assume it would be fine.
