Need help with wiring.

So i bought this.

http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=shocker-228vx-train-horn-kit

And ive added the compressor on the trunk and the 4 horn on the front and the valve is also on the front, but 1 of the 4 air pipe from the valve to horn is about 1 inch longer, does it matter?

Anyway, i suck at wiring electronic, i got no idea what to do with the wiring, what i was thinking to power compressor is.:frowning:

Battery->30a fuse->switch from the package-> compressor?

But i got no clue about how i can connect the valve it has 2 grey wire, and how i can trigger the horn.
Im starting to think that i may have to buy a switch, or maybe i can use the steering wheel horn button?

Dont know either how i can acess the wire from outside to inside the car.

Can anyone sort me out please?

My car is a corrola ve 1998

Thanks

What kind of car? Knowing this will help with what you need to power the compressor.

For the horn valve, a simple push button is fine. Run power from a fused location in the car to the button, then out to the horn valve. Ground the horn valve and you’ll have the first circuit done.

For the compressor, you’ll need something heavy duty. I’d recommend 1/0 welding cable since it’ll take some abuse and will easily handle the load. Double the length to get both positive and negative to the battery. Since the tank and compressor should be close, run a piece of smaller gauge wire from the positive cable off the battery to the pressure switch and you’ll be done there.

Make sure it works and you should be ready to start honking!

You only need one wire ran for the compressor as you can ground the compressor where you have it located.

I ran 2 switches into my dash, one to power the compressor and the other to switch the horn on/off so I can control it through my regular steering wheel button.

HB has some walkthroughs on the wiring too

http://s.hornblasters.com/diagrams/dgm-hb4h1520gcc.pdf

The airline lengths are not an exact science. As long as they’re within a few inches of each other, they’re good.

Wire came with the kit for the compressor, didn’t it? It’s not the heaviest stuff, but it’ll do. Anyway, here’s a diagram from Viair. Even they’re lightest duty kit - they show a relay.
http://www.viaircorp.com/OffRoad/Schematics/10000_wd.pdf

Alright so im going to have to buy a push button to trigger the valve right?
I dont have a relay either.

For the compressor:

Battery->30A fuse->on/off switch from the package-> red wire from compressor. Black wire to the car metal for ground.

Valve:

Battery-> Fuse?? -> push button-> one of the gray wire of valve and the other one ground?

Is that ok?

Your way will work, but I’d use a relay and use an ignition source for the trigger wire. That way your compressor can’t drain your battery while the engine is off.

It’s a good idea to fuse any wire coming off the battery. Either gray wire can be the ground.

Ok, so i bought a 12v 40A relay, and a Push button switch.

But i got no idea where is the keyed power source from

http://www.viaircorp.com/OffRoad/Schematics/10000_wd.pdf

Now i got a on/off switch from the package and a nexxtech push button switch.

But can i use the on/off switch from the package instead of the pressure switch?

Do you have the owners manual? Or there’s probably a diagram on the fuse panel door. Look for a fuse that says IGN or something. Or you’ll have to use a voltmeter or test light to find one. Then buy a fuse tap like this:

The pressure switch is probably already installed on your tank. It makes sure you don’t overpressurize the tank. You really should use it and the toggle switch. The toggle switch would be the master cutoff switch if you put it between the ignition source and the pressure switch.

Look for existing rubber grommets in the firewall. And rubber plugs in your trunk floor. If you can’t find any or they’re not in a good spot, you’ll have to drill a hole and use a new grommet.

Alright.

Yeah the pressure switch is already on the compressor.

And i found a place to place wire inside.

Also, i tried connecting the air cable from the compressor from the trunk to the vavle in the hood, its not long ennuf, is there a place where i can buy compressor cable in a hardware store or something?

I beleive that the air line to connect to the compressor is

17 ft of 1/2 in D.O.T. Approved Airline

Right? Im gonna need nearly 25 ft just to be sure i have enuf.

Any parts store could set you up with some fittings and hose. You could buy some 1/2 or 5/8 hose with a few barbed fittings and run that to where you need to go.

I cant get the fancy push connectors that HB has here locally, but was able to wire up all the rest of my system with the regular barbs and fittings from a local parts store.

If the 1/2 air line can fit the compressor and the valve solenoid, ill be fine.

But what your telling me is that they cant fit the viair air plug?

Local hardware stores usually have plain rubber air hose. It works fine, but you have to buy barb fittings. Your push-to-connect (PTC) fittings are meant for nylon DOT tubing. Probably won’t find it locally without a bunch of searching.

What size is the viair air plug?

Any parts store should be able to join fittings to upsize/downsize to get you going.

Dont forget to pick up some red threadlocker to seal things up tight

Dunno, but its the compressor from that

http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=shocker-228vx-train-horn-kit

so its 1/2

The hose from the compressor is 3/8".

Most parts store can match you up with the correct fittings if you let them know what you need to do.

About the button for valve.

Will this work?

Battery->fuse (how much amp?) -> button -> valve

Yes. 5 amp is plenty.

Ok, for the keyed power source, im using the cig fuse and its 15 amp

http://www.viaircorp.com/OffRoad/Schematics/10000_wd.pdf

Is that dangerous?

Are you splicing into the wire or using a fuse tap like I posted above?
If you use the add-a-circuit you use the original fuse and your own new fuse for your new circuit. 5 amp is plenty for that trigger wire. You can use cheap 18ga wire.

If you want to splice into the cig lighter use at least the size of the existing wire (14ga?) since it is ultimately fused with 15 amps. If you want to use cheaper 18ga wire you should add an inline fuse of 5 amps.

Alright, i got my compressor circuit with relay working.

But my valve circuit wont work.

Its battery->5A fuse-> push button->valve.

The other gray wire from valve is ground.

What could be wrong?
