DJ Luna used a portable air tank just fine, but you need to make sure that you check the tank’s maximum psi rating. What horn did you buy? All train horns sound best around 150 psi so if your tank can manage that then you’re fine. Also make sure that the compressor you are using (if you aren’t filling up at a gas station) can handle the tank size, the level of pressure you want and check the duty cycle. It is best to use 1/2 inch air line with all train horns and make sure that your tank is at least 2 gallons. If it’s a real train horn, go for 10-20 gallons.
It’s a little weird that the pressure switch is mounted right to the discharge.
It can’t get a very good tank reading right there since it’s so close to the compressor pulses. A tank with multiple ports would let you move the pressure switch.
Anyway, if it works it works, but just a heads up.
Thanks for all the help, I can tell that this forum has a lot of good knowledge.
Yes, as our first ever horn we will get it hooked up, and it most likely lead to bigger better in the future.
This will be going on a 2005 F150 that my 16 year old son just bought. We are looking for a tank locally (Tampa area) now and if no luck we will buy from HornBlasters.
Thanks again!
Yes, he bought the truck himself (he is one of those that has pushed the lawn mower around the neighborhood since he was 10 and bought sold a few dirt bikes for profit…).
1/2" port for a real trainhorn. On your smallish horn probably 1/4". You can match the fitting size on the solenoid valve.
Depends on compressor for fitting on leader hose.
The rest of the ports can be 1/4" for drain/gauge/pressure switch/safety valve.
