Newb intro w/pics

I recently acquired a set of Grover 1510 “stuttertone” air horns. These babies are the standard equipment on many fire engines. They have that distinctive fire engine sound.

I’ve ordered an on board air kit from hornblasters.com:

I spent an hour today mounting the horns to a heavy piece of aluminum, and test fitting them underneath my truck (thanks to the guys here that have posted the HOW TO thread w/pics :D):

I already have 2 sets of cheap little Fiamm air horns wired to the main horn button. So when I hit my horn button I actually have 6 horns report (2 factory horns, 2 high toned air horns, and 2 low toned air horns). I also have a 100 watt low profile Whelen Siren wired to a discrete accessory button in this truck (only the electronic horn sound…not an actual siren, so there are no legal issues). These Grover horns are louder by far then what I’ve got going now. I suppose I’m a horny kind of guy. :rimshot:

I should receive the air kit this Wednesday. I’ll be off Thursday so I will get these babies installed. I’ll report back with more pics as I make progress with the install. Once I get them installed I will probably post a video with the new noise makers.

Glad to be here. Thanks to the folks that put this place together.

Nice! I like the emergency horns. Who knows, might come in handy some day.

Welcome!

welcome to the forum!
and damnnnn those horns look awesome

Welcome to the forum…

Well I received a box of goods from the little brown truck yesterday. I spent about 3 hours getting everything mounted and wired up. Everything went in fairly easily. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to complete the install because the gentlemen at hornblasters.com forgot to include my air valve in the shipment. All that’s left is to hook up the hot and ground wire to the valve, and plum the air tubing to the horns.

More pics and vids to come.

The tank and compressor mounted in the front corner of the bed. This will be covered with a locked tonneau.

THe horns will be wired to the main horn button. I installed a hidden toggle switch in my center console to turn the air valve on and off. I can’t wait to get the air valve and get this project finished.

looks good bro… what horns do you have? shockers?

I have a set of Grover 1510 stuttertone horns. They’re a little different, but I think they’re going to sound awesome.

awesome!! try to take a vid of them i want to hear it

Nice install…await the rest of the pics of ur hook up

Looks good to me too, nice job!

might want to locate that drain cock to the bottm of the tank so you can actually drain the system…

I thought about this very thing, but there’s no opening on the bottom of the tank to put the drain into. This seemed like the only solution just to slap it on front. In lieu of a hole on the bottom, where would you suggest I place the drain?

This brings up a question on my mind: how often do you guys drain your air tanks and allow them to dry out? I have a Porter Cable compressor that I use in my garage that I always drain each time I use it.

I appreciate any advice or feedback here.

BTW: I should receive my valve via UPS tomorrow. I will be able to finish up the install, clean up the wiring, and test everything for leaks tomorrow. I will post more pics, and try to post a video (if daylight allows) of the finished project.

it does have a hole on the bottom of the tank!!! i can see it in the pictures!!!

Thanks, I will fix this tomorrow.
