I believe I have the Shocker Classic 127VX Train Horn Kit, but my tank is 3.5L I think…
I bought my kit from HB 2 years ago about.
I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab… I have no idea if I can mount a tank anywhere on my truck of this size without it going into the bed.
My question is this… I’m thinking of getting a K3LA, but have no clue if it’ll fit on my vehicle or if it’s cost effective to get it.
*Would it be cost effective to ditch the 3.5L tank (if thats the correct size) and get a 2.5 gallon 6 port tank to use with the K3LA? While keeping my current compressor.
*How big of a tank is recommended for a K3LA? I don’t need 10 seconds of horn… Maybe 3-5 seconds at most.
I’m trying to figure out if it’ll save me some money if I don’t buy an “external air” kit…Since I do have 1 compressor so far… Or if it’ll cost me more money because I’m buying all the parts individually.
I had a 3gal tank b4 this and that was bare minimum for a good strong blast… But now with 5 gal of air i can get a good strong blast and the compressor wont kick on… until i hit it again
If your worried about size, run dual tanks. add a 3 gal to your current setup. Just tie the 2 tanks together with 1/2" line… But if you go that route you may have to upgrade the compressor. Actually either way you go you will prob have to upgrade the compressor…
If i were you i would sell the current setup (compressor and tank) and put that towards a new 5 gal tank and compressor … You will have more fun with 5 gal of air on the shockers…
2 gallons seems perfect… Maybe I’ll even consider getting a 2.5 gallon. IF I can fit a 5 gallon I’ll get that.
Are you sure with my current compressor I couldn’t just tie in a 2gal tank to my current 3.5L? I was thinking that would be my cheapest way…
Anyway… It seems that if I buy a new compressor and tank I need to get everything that goes with it… Pressure switch, fittings, air release valve… I’ll call HB tomorrow and see how much it’ll all come to if I buy them individually.
HB’s got a ton of tanks, just take a look and find what you need. You could mount it on the outside frame rail under the bed, which is where I’m going to mount my 12 gallon tank on my '08 Ram 3500 QC longbed.
You’ve got a lot more room under the hood than I do which means more mounting options … lucky dog.
what kind of compressor do you have. I had a 280c with my 2 gallon, It was ok, not particularly fast, but did the job. two gallons isnt a ton of room, so imo your fine with what you have compressor wise.
Does anyone think I could possibly put a 5 gallon and compressor in this part of my Dakota? Maybe mount the tank to the underbelly of the bed and let it hang down?
I’m not really happy with putting holes in my bed though… Maybe I should use liquid nails to make a mount and then screw the tank to it.
Or maybe I can put the tank here after I remove this current tank and compressor… Hmmm… I’ll still have to figure out a place for the compressor…
How much pressure or what size tank? If you’re talking pressure, they can blow on like 50 psi. As far as tank size, I always recommend a 5 gallon for any horn lol (unless it’s a Leslie)
Hm, I don’t have my P3 anymore so I’m not sure. They don’t use alot of air though. I would say probably a 10 gallon though for a blast that long with no fading.
